Sense of Place

Jean Park

The place that I'd like to describe is the bus that I take everyday to get to school. First, the outsider part of the bus is colored blue and there's a little electronic sign on to show how many seats are left in that bus. Inside of the bus if just full of seats and the back door. Whenever I take that bus, I always smell unpleasant scents because it's not well ventilated. The people who take this bus is usually an office workers so I often see lots of middle aged men wearing suits and ties. In morning time, I cannot hear any noise but a sound of bus riding because most of the passengers fell in sleep including myself. This is also same at the evening or night time, however, little difference is I can hear some senior men snoring while there asleep. Now I'm used to that sound but when I first heard it, it was funny and sometimes very annoying. The bus seats are comfortable and in winter, I feel very humid since about 40 people are breathing in a closed place. This blue bus always have been a very thankful transportation and I feel coziness from it.

Place-Episode

Episode is the restaurant I work in. We sell all kinds of stuff. Coffee, food, and also alcohol. The reason I chose this place is that I work here and I work everyday. As a worker of Episode, no one could have taken a better look at the store than me. Everyday, Monday to Friday, I go to Episode. I see the banner and I step inside the store. But before I really get inside, I have to go down the stairs. When someone comes down the stairs, inside the store, the automatic bell rings for 2 seconds to tell us someone is coming. I step inside and I see approximately 5 tables. so when the seats are full, almost 20 people are in the store. On the right side, there are two doors. The first door, which is beside the wall, is the kitchen. I can smell sausages, omelets, and sometimes my boss makes us soup that has rice cakes in it. The second door is the restroom. Some people, late at night, drink a lot and vomit in the restroom. It really stinks. On the left side, we have alcohol bottles ready to be served. Also, we have a special little room where we keep dried foods. Well, episode is a tiny restaurant so this is pretty much it.

Jung-In SIM / Place / Mon34

The place that I'm going to describe is located in the fourth floor of globee dorm at hufs. I have to walk along the hallway where most of the time there's full of smell of cigarette to get to that place. At the end of the hallway, there's a door of room, number 438, which is the room of 'Hufs Philharmonic Orchestra'. The door is always locked that only could open the person who knows its secret number. As opening, I face a table which is huge enough that four or five people can use at the same time. That table is very useful in many ways like doing homework, having conversation or sometimes discussing things. It's made of wood and incredibly heavy. I once tried to move it to other place with my friend and it was just like a hell. As it's the room for orchestra, there are plenty of musical instruments like violins, flutes, cellos, bases and also full of dusts that the whole room smells like dusty. There's also a piano whose color is black and its sound is pretty good. Whenever I touch the piano keys, they are very light and the sound is so clear that I often enjoy refreshing my feeling with playing this piano. There's also a huge window at the wall. I can see some buildings of campus through this window. Some people once scribbled on this window with red pen and it's pretty funny to look at it.

Park, Hee-june / My Special Place / Mon34

Over 15 years, I had lived in one place. I loved my house, even if it's small, our family lived together. In that house, there are three rooms, one bathroom, and dining room linked kitchen. For me, the best place was my room, of course. What I look through the window is a street and a church, also I can see beautiful sunset because my room faces west. My room was small but there are much furniture and small ornaments. There is a bed, a desk, and a piano, also there are three bookshelves. I decorated my room like a real girl place. The bed is rose-colored and the sheet is pink-colored. On the bed, there are some dolls and soft cushions being edged with white lace. Other furniture is made of hardwood, so it looks like a room for little princess. Of course, even the wallpaper was pink-colored and brightened. This was my first room, and I spend half of my life in this place. So I can remind it whenever I want. If I can return before I move, I want to see my lovely place again.

Sense of Place

I will introduce the place of my cousin's dog, lango. The size of his house is very much similar to the toilet bowl. It has a blue roof, and its shape of the top is not sharp but curved. And the color of its body which is under the roof is a bright grey. The roof has horizontal dark-blue stripes and the body has vertical dark-grey stripes. Therefore the stripes of these two are perpendicular to each other. This house is made of plastic, so when I knocked the side of the house, the pounding sound resounded through the lango's house. Inside the house, there is a red cushion. Even though my cousin washed it regularly, it has unforgettable smell of urine. To know the atmosphere inside his house, I put my head inside. It was very tiny, of course, but being surrounded by the scent of lango's shampoo and air freshener, his house gives off a feeling of coziness.

NaYeon Kwon/ Angel In Us/ Mon34

"Angel In Us" coffee-shop in front of my house.

Because I cannot concentrate well at my place, I tend to go to coffee-shop or library when I have assignments. As I go there often ordering the same coffee everytime, two part-time workers know me. Both of them are around 20s. I don't like coffee that much but I love its scent. As soon as I open the door, I can immediately feel the fresh and delicate scent of coffee. I always order the same thing, a green tea latte. I like the color, smell and also the taste. Like I said, I don't drink coffee that often and I also don't like sweet things either, there aren't many choice for me to pick. However, the green tea latte is the perfect choice for me. The coffee-shop is quite big. However, there aren't usually many people and the music is very quiet which makes the atmosphere very calm. There are various kinds of magazines, so when I take a break for a moment, I read those. Sometimes, I do my assignments for hours there having two or three lattes.

Song Eun Ko/My treasure/mon34

      <My precious tresure>

My special treasure is a pink blanket that my parents bought for me when I was 18 years old.

This blanket has been always with me. It is a little bit thick and heavy. And its surface has a boy and a girl who are riding a bike joyfully. The girl is listening to the music by her earphone behind him. Some flowers scattering are around them. Whenever I am in my blanket I can feel warm, soft, and calm and I can smell the scent of flowers.

The first reason why I love this pink blanket is it has specific and special kind of feeling. When I enter into it, the blanket roll me up slowly and sweetly. I can never forget this bewitching feeling. The second reason is that it is my 'pick-me-up'.When I suffer from exhaustion I would go home early and cover myself with my pink blanket. Then, my fatigue melt away magically. I can't and won't exchange my special blanket for any other blanket!

One of the most precious things in my life is my own portrait that I drew myself. When I think of my picture I feel proud that I made it and happy because it makes me think about joyful past memories. It was an art class in middle school when I drew the picture. My art teacher said that describing oneself is one good way to know oneself and let us describe the picture that we are in. I chose the photograph that I took in central park nearby my house. I was leaning over railing on the bridge. I was wearing a brown hat that has light brown polo mark. I had a short hair that was hidden in the hat. Also, I was dressed in a white T-shirt with gray letters saying "Abecrombie" on it. I was wearing jeans and it was torn in some spots. Also, I had the brown sneakers that had the star sign beside it and black shoestring was holding it tightly. There was a lake behind me and water was spraying out of a fountain. In the water, there were some fish and ducks. Beside the lake, many trees were planted in a row. Also there were children who were riding bicycles and rollerblades. I tried to describe all these things in the picture and I think I did it as the best I could. This portrait is very special to me because it was the first piece that was highly praised by art teacher. Also, as the picture is located in central park where I spent most of my time when I was little, it is valuable for me. I would say that my first portrait is my treasure in my life.

There's a photograph sticked on my window of my room. It's a photo of me and my mom and dad taken when I was two. I took this from an album in which my mom has gathered many photos of my childhood. I get to stare at this photo once in a while, and I often get overwhelmed by the warmth it spreads out. In the photograph, my mom and dad are crouching beside two-year-old me, both smiling broadly. My dad smiles the most wide smile in the universe. She has her red cardigan on, and she looks pretty. My mom has her arms around me. The date of the photo is 1991, march. I heard that it was my 2nd birthday. My uncle gave me a set of clothes as a present, which I am wearing in the photo. The collar of the shirt and the pants are skyblue and has many flower patterns. There's an elephant drawn in front of the shirt. Overall the photo reminds me of how much my family loves me. And also when I get fraustrated with works or just get lonely, this photo helps me to think of things positive, like family, or happy moments spent together. It's like my courage charm. It helps me fight the blues and carry on.

Jung In SIM / My important possession / Mon34

My shoes which I bought last week on the internet is the most important thing for me. The reason why I adore it is of course because of its look. Its color is mint - the color mixed with green and blue- so it goes really well with the weather of spring where there are fresh air and blue sky with full of sun shine. In other words, it reminds me the beauty of spring so that it makes me feel so good whenever I wear it. When it comes to its shape, it's stitched with white thread along the border and there's also a ribbon in the middle. These shoes are made in Japan where there are so many girls small in stature, so I think that's why it's designed to be so girlish and cute. Whenever I wear it, it catches the eyes of people that they can't help giving some compliments on my shoes and those compliments just make my day more joyful. That's why I like this shoes the most.

My most valuable possession is my iphone. Not because of its price or design. It's because it helps me to connect with my valuable people. First of all my boyfriend is in america for his college. So it is very hard to keep in touch with him because international phone call is too much expensive. However, it is for free to call him with my iphone thanks to the application. Even more there is also a videophone function. Therefore I can see him whenever I want and this function is for free, too! Also I have many friends who study abroad. But no matter how far away they are, I can keep in touch with them as always. Moreover, my iphone has all the pictures of them and all the music I like. It also wakes me up every morning, reminds me to do my assignment at proper time and helps me to check my e-mail anywhere at anytime. Like as I mentioned, it carries so many functions in my everyday life. Therefore this, my iphone, is the most valuable thing i have.

There is a small room in my house, and it is only for my old piano. Nobody in my family like to play the piano, so actually I'm the only person who use that space. I love that room not only because it's private place for me but also the piano has special meaning to me. When I was a little girl, I started to learn piano. I really love to play it that I spend very much of my time in piano institute. But I don't have my own piano in my house. I hope that I could have the one. I didn't say my wish to my parents, so I thought that they don't know anything about this. However, on May 5th, children's day, my parents gave me a present and it was gorgeous piano! I was so much happy that I can't forget that feeling until now. The piano has dark brown color, and is decorated with gold-colored lines. Also, I can smell wood and papers as it is made of wood and there are many music scores. Whenever I sit in front of the piano, it reminds me of my parents' love and understanding. I definitely feel comfortable and relaxed. Though it is just an old piano, it is something I can rely on when I feel tired and sad. It has been many years, so the sound of some keys are not that good. But I don't want to buy new one. I will fix it and I want to keep it forever. As it is my precious treasure which I can find peace.

Park Tae Jun / A possession that is important to you / Mon34

A picture of my family has been always the most important possession to me. Decided to go to Canada for high school just after graduation of middle school, I began to prepare all items for living in Canada. Just three days before departure, my mother suggested that we take a family picture so that I can bring it with me. Since all of my family members don't like taking pictures, I noticed my family had never taken a family picture before. Thanks to one of my relative who owns a picture shop in Seoul, we went there to take family picture for the first time. Everyone is wearing black suits, their hair's done, and smiled brightly as if my family is the happiest of all in the world. We decided to make two copies of the picture, a big one which is 3 feet tall to keep it at home and a small one-just about a size of a small book-to take it with me. Ten years after then, I'm living apart from my family and it is still on my table. Not surprisingly, my family hasn't taken a new family picture since then. Whenever I see the picture, I love those smiles and it touches my heart strong. Without any doubt, this family picture is the most important possession to me that I won't exchange it with anything in the world.

There are several possessions that I think it's special and very meaningful to me. Although among those things a piece of white shirt is the most precious possession that I own. This white shirt is not luxurious or exclusive but it's just a cheap clothes that you can buy anywhere. However, what's printed on that shirt makes it so important to me: the signature and a little messages from my Canadian friends. When I was in elementary school, I stayed at Canada about two years to study English. Those two years were unforgettable time because I made so many great memories and met lots of kind people. When I had to left Canada and go back to Korea, I was really sad and felt depressing because I had to leave all my friends. My friends wanted to give me a very special gift and they prepared a shirt and made my classmates to write a good bye message for me. I still cannot forget the moment when I received the present and cried so much, not wanting to leave my friends and also thankful to them for giving me such a meaningful gift. Even these days, whenever I look at that shirt, it reminds me of pleasant time that I spent in Canada. Thus, this white shirt with my friends' messages is so crucial and I would never forget my feelings toward the shirt.

The watch I got for my 19th birthday means a lot to me. I like watches very much and have been collecting them for years. Since now, my parents usually gave me cash or their cards to buy what I wanted for myself because they were both busy. Because they don't have to worry whether I would like the gift and I can get what I wanted in that way, I never blamed them for not giving me a real present. However, for my 19th birthday, my parents actually got a real present for me. Especially because I only mentioned about that watch a couple of times, I did not know that  they would notice that I wanted it so badly. I was happily suprised. I am not saying that I never felt my parents' love before because they were too busy to buy me a present but I felt more like I am getting a lot of love and care from my family. At that day, I spent the whole day with my family. The watch is green and silver. it's quite big for a woman but as I prefer men's watch, Ilike it even more. Because it means a lot to me and I don't want to break it or anything, I never wore it since now. However, I am planning to wear it before it's too late. I like everything about the watch; the color, size, design, there is not a thing I do not like about it.

My favorite possession are my blue jeans. They are not just a piece of clothing. It's way more different than other jeans. The reason why I like those blue jeans is that I have my memories of high school days. At first, I bought them online, they were blue, a little bit like dark blue, and as time went by, the color has faded and they became less darker, which I like better. I loved my blue jeans and I wore them a lot. I can remember a few memories of my high school days. I remember going shopping with my friends, having a new boyfriend, and I remember spilling spicy noodles on my jeans because I was in a rush eating them during the break time. There is a 2 inch hole on the right knee part, I still remember that hole was created because I fell down on my first date with my boyfriend. That hole made me so embarrassed that I just wanted to finish my date that day. My jeans make me feel comfortable and I feel like a high school girl all over again. I miss all those memories and as long as I have my blue jeans with me, I will never forget them.

My Important Possession / Kyeong-eun Lee / Mon34

I have a cute one-piece dress which contains a happy memory. Its upper part is white and little bit boxy, and the lower skirt part is spriped and tight. I bought it last summer while I was traveling Singapore with my older sister. As you all know, Singapore is very hot and humid, so I needed to buy a light cloth; one night, on our way to dinner, my sister found a simple and cute dress on the roadshop and paid for it as a present. I was so pleasant to have the one-piece as my sister bought it as well as it was very adorable and unique. That is why in my Singapore traveling pictures, almost all of my clothes is the white and striped dress. So naturally, that one-piece reminds me of happy memories with my sister and I am looking forward summer to come when I can wear my adorable dress.

TV is prevalent in our daily life. A majority of people can't live without tv. When they're at home, tv's always kept ourned on though they're not watching it. They just listen to the sound of it when they're cooking, eating, reading, and even they're studying. But I don't understand them. When I was in the Army, there was my roomate who was always watching tv. After working hour, we took rest in our own room. Right after we went to our room, he turned on the tv and started to do his things such as taking a shower, reading the book. All I just wanted was to take a rest with silence, but tv always bothered me to de that simple thing. I wanted to sleep early, to study, to read the book but I couldn't do that just because he was watching tv. It was really hard to stand and understand him. I think tv is useless to me. Every information i need is on the internet and I think tv shows are of no use. So, i can live without tv.

Park, Ji Eon / My important possession / Monday 11am

The possession that is important to me is my smart phone. Before I joined the army, there was no smart phone like iphone or galaxy s. But now, most of us use smart phone and it's getting more and more essential to our life. To begin with, I'm really satisfied with my Galaxy S2. First of all, I don't need extra mp3 player. I can put all the music I want to listen in my phone. Also, I can put videos without encording process. So, I don't have to carry mp3 player inconveniently and there's no time to get bored. I can listen to the music and watch the video in everywhere. Secondly, I can find any information by using this without computer in anywhere. Suppose that there were no smart phones. When we walk the street and suddenly want to know about something, we have to find PC cafe or wait until we go home to use computer. But we have smart phone and we can find the answer right away. Lastly, i can study by using this. When i took translation class on last week, I forgot to print class material out. Professor let us to read the marerial and translate to korean. I didn't know what to do but soon I found the solution. I used my phone. I got on the internet website where class material was. So I took my class without any troble. In conclusion, I think my smart phone is very useful and important to me. Without this, life would be boring and stifling.

Ji Eun Lee/ My meaningful possession/ Mon 11a.m.

I have been writing diaries since I was in elementary school. There are about 10 diaries now because I have been writing them every year. But among them, the most special diary is the one that I wrote in the United States 7 years ago. During one year and half of lives in New York, everything was new to me. So I had decided to write daily routine and how I felt that day. I directly went to bookstore and bought one. The diary is yellow rectangular one and its size is about a half folded paper. Also there is a character of cute little girl drawn on the cover. There are lots of stories in the diary. I still remember the writing about the graduation of middle school. On the graduation, I wore a black short dress with shining silver shoes. I got awarded a certificate which was given to hard-studying student. Also I took lots of pictures with my friends and danced at the party. Whenever I read that story, I still can feel the excitement and joy of the day. Furthermore, there is another special writing in the diary. On the last night in the U.S, I didn't easily go to bed because of mixed feelings. I was sad because I had to leave there where I made precious memories with lots of people. At the same time, I was happy that I finally could go back to hometown where I missed so much. In the diary, it is also written that the stars at that night were unusually shining. I still keep this diary on my desk. Even though it was about 7 years ago, I still can vividly remember those days whenever I read the diary. Therefore, it is the most important possession to me.

MY SPECIAL POSSESION

201103449 진하경 Chin HaKyung

I have an antique telephone which was once my grandmother's. My grandmother bought this telephone when my father went to middle school, so that's about the 70's. It's is pale blue now, but dad says it was real vivid blue when she just got it. In order to make a call, you have to stick your finger in to a hole and turn it until it reaches the hook. It has 10 holes for each numbers. When I was five, I lived with my grandparents. Every day, I would go to their room and spin the dial. My grandmother didn't like that because she worried if I might break it. I begged her to give me the telephone since I loved antique furniture and instruments. Finally, the day my parents and I moved to Lima, she gave it to me as a good-bye present. Granma's gone now. But her precious and pretty telephone still lies on my shelf. It doesn't work now, but I don't care. This telephone is something I think of my grandma's telephone as the most precious thing I own and I will pass it on generation to generation.

Money

Everybody loves money, but among those there is A MONEY that I love specially. A few years ago when I worked in my own chophouse, an American traveler came in the store. He ordered samgyeopsal and enjoyed it. Because I liked that he strives to speak Korean hard, I provided service more kindly. After he had finished his meal, I asked him politely to pay in U.S. dollar for his food. I explained that someday I want to live traveling all around the world and this money could remind me of my dream. So, I earned my first foreign money, two 10 dollar bills. I keep this bills in my photo album. One shows front side, the other shows rear side. One shows a portrait of Alexander Hamilton, the other shows the U.S. Treasury building. There's not a special thing which is distinguished from another 10 dollar bills. However, when I open the album and see this bills, I think about my future for a while. Even if money is a concrete word, the two 10 dollar bills have abstract metaphor in my occasion. They are not just ordinary money. They are dream, future and courage to me.

A Possession That Is Important To Me

In my wardrobe I have many clothes. I have several jeans, shirts, skirts, coats, jumpers, dresses and so on. Among such many types of clothes there is only one item that has special meaning to me.  That is a simple white T-shirt. The T-shirt is just an ordinary piece of clothing. It is white and medium sized. Drawing of the Eifel Tower and silhouettes of people are printed in front of the T-shirt. There is nothing special about this white T-shirt. However, it is very special to me. It is a T-shirt that is designed and actually made by my younger sister. She made this for my birthday present. When she first gave it to me and told me that she made it, I was very impressed and touched. So every time I wear the clothes I think about the efforts my sister made to create it.

Since I was a little girl I like bright things, the accessories. Until now, I always take some accessories like ring, bracelet, necklace, and earring. In my various collections, there is a special thing: a Family ring. My mother always emphasizes "solidarity", especially solidarity of family. One day, she suggested buying family ring for symbol of our unity and happiness. We were all agreed with, so that day we bought it. The precious ring is made of silver and some little jewelry. It twisted like a ribbon that looks like a special bond of our group. At the center of ribbon, there is a small bright jewelry, and a part of it is decorated by smaller jewelry. These jewelry's color are white but when they are caught a light, they bright like rainbow. This ring is not fancy but simple. I always put it my finger and remind my family. This is a priceless ring for me, so I'll never take it from my finger.

TV : Could you live without it ?

I was a big fan of watching TV when I was a teenager. Especially, I always had time for viewing Korean soap operas after my studies in high school days. It was the only source for relieving my stress. I always dreamed of spending the whole day watching TV without any limitations when I graduate from high school. However, my love of TV totally disappeared since freshman. There was no need to sit in front of TV because my life was much more fun without it. Also, I got more news updates by my smart phone and Internet. Some people think not knowing about currently broadcasted issues and gossips would make them out in the left field. In my opinion, living without TV doesn't affect one's life at all.

I sent you my paragraph before thursday midnight but there'd been an error.

I found it just right now and sending it again~

I'm sure I can live without TV because I've already lived my life without it for recent 4 years. The reason why I stop watching TV is that I stop thinking while watching TV. I feel like I have no idea but just hear and accept powerlessly whatever it's saying. This shoud never happen in my life as a student for the reason that this is the most crucial period of hard working on studying. Of course TV offers a lot of information. For example, I get to know what's going on in this society and in this world by watching TV news. And I can become more sophisticated by watching TV program like documentary which introduces me classical music or any other things. Also I can get some help in studying from lessons offered by educational broadcasting station. However, all these benefits I get from TV can also be replaced by other things which are more refined and intellectual like newspapers, books and so on. This is more active and desirable way to get informed. That's why I don't watch TV anymore.

TV : Could you live without it?

I think I can live without TV and now I live without TV. In fact, I was a girl who really loved many TV show, soap opera, and so on. When I was home alone, I always sat down the sofa, turned on the TV, would channel surf and I lost track of the time. I passed time watching the TV. Even I had my lunch or dinner in the living room where the TV is placed, not in the dining room. However, when I was a high school student, my TV habit was getting disappeared. Of course there was no time to enjoy watching TV, and I and all of my friends were busy studying. In addition, one of my friends who studied very hard and got a good grade never watched TV. In fact, I felt a sense of rivalry to her and it inflames me. Looking backward, it's funny, but at that time, I think "If I didn't watch the TV at all, I could be better than her in terms of grade." Since this moment, I seldom watched TV. At first, I can't endure the sound from TV and my family except me laughing in the living room in my room alone. As time goes by, however, I adapted this situation and finally I can stay or study in my room without wondering about the sound from TV. And now I am a university student who lives far apart from my family. At my house, there's no TV but I can spend time listening music, reading books, searching on the internet, doing the home assignments, cooking, or cleaning the house.

TV, could you live without it?

I think there are no problems to live without TV. TV usually gives us a lot of information and also make people fun or happy. But I think I can get information from many other medias. I can get the information through newspaper or cellular phone instead of TV. And also I can spend time with the computer or cellular phone instead of TV. For example, I read mobile newspapers on my way to school. There's no need to watch TV news programs anymore to me. Also sometimes I watch latest dramas or entertainment program with my computer. I think TV is the thing which bothers me. It is really good to kill the time. After watching TV, however, there's nothing left in my head. As a conclusion, I can live much better without TV for the help of other products like smartphone or computer.

"Life without TV" / Kyeong-eun Lee

TV: Could you live without it?
I do not think I can live without TV. Living without TV would be stressful and make the conversation with others less interesting. First, I use TV as my stress reliever. I usually go back to my home 10 o'clock and during the day time, I have very few things to getting rid of my stress. Chatting with friends could be a substitute for TV, but it's not always possible because nowadays I and my friends have no time to talk with. Therefore, watching funniest TV shows after my day-works done only makes me laugh and relieves my stress. Second, lagging behind TV show trends would make my conversations with people less enjoyable. In Korea, there are big trends made by TV gag shows like "Gag concert," or "Comedy Big League"; if one does not catch the trend, he or she might feel isolated because such things account for big parts in many Korean youths' conversations. So, how could I live without TV? I cannot live "Enjoyable Life" without TV.

Park, Hee-June / TV / Mon34

Most of my friends' hobby is to watch drama and to talk about that. On weekends, if they don't have any appointment, they keep their seats, in front of television. But watching TV a lot is wasting time. TV is a tool for convenient communication between nations and nations, peoples and peoples. However, for real communication, seeing each other is the best way. We have to meet people, talk each other, and hug them. That is, watching TV all day long is one-sided communication, because we do not talk each other, but we just accept information. That's the reason why we do not watch TV much.

Since the television has been invented, it became very crucial in our lives. According to the statistics, Americans usually watch TV about 6 hours a day and this is the number that we cannot ignore. Also I personally enjoy watching TV, especially dramas and documentaries and I can't really imagine my life without a television. Despite the fact that people rely a lot on TV, I believe there wouldn't be any terribly serious problems if the television is gone. It's true that television is providing us lots of advantages like we're able to know what's happening in the world by TV news, having enjoyable time by watching some comedy programs. Although television also has a negative effects, for example, people waste too much time only watching TV and that's usually an entertaining programs. Moreover, if we look at TV as means of communication with others, there is an internet which it's used more often these days. As I mentioned before, television is definitely a great invention that improved people's lives. I think, however, television is not that necessary when we live our life.

Ji Eun Lee/ TV, could you live without it? / Mon 11a.m.

Nowadays television plays an important role in our lives. I also love watching television since I was young. When I was in elementary school, I always watched TV after I came back from school. Unlike any other parents, my parents allowed me to watch it every day. When I lived in the United States, I learned English by watching cartoon such as 'Spongebob.' The story was easy to understand and it did help to improve my listening skill. During high school years, I couldn't spend time watching television as much as I did before. I usually watched it during   in weekends. There are two ways how television has good effect on me. First, I can enjoy different kinds of programs. Among many, I mostly watch news and drama. Also since I prefer television to computer, I usually get knowledge through TV about how world is going on. When I meet my friends, I like to talk about recent dramas. Sometimes I even watch cooking channel with my mother and sports game with my father. Secondly, watching television is the only time I can truly take a rest. For example, I used to watch television whenever I was having a problem solving math problems. Especially when I watch variety show programs, I could get rid of my stress by laughing. Therefore I can't imagine my lives without TV.

Youna Lee/ TV: Could you live without it?/ Monday 11 a.m.

TV : Could you live without it?

In retrospect, most of the days in my life can not be explained without TV. Except when I prepared for college entrance exam, I watched TV almost everyday. When I was a young girl, I usually watched cartoons such as Bonobono, Detective Conan, Zzangoo, and so on. I sometimes watch them until now in my free time. Now, I loved to watch dramas, music, comedy and all different kinds of programs. These days for example, I really like to watch 'The moon bearing sun', 'The Voice Korea', and 'Gag concert'. And these things that I watch affected me in various ways. They are good topics that I can talk and share opinions with my friends. And through the News or Documentary programs, I could know what's going on in the world and my country and also I could accumulate diverse knowledge. Moreover, after watching TV home shopping channel, I bought several clothes and shoes through that.

Likewise, TV has on enormous effect on my life. Though I can download video files that I couldn't watch, I think my answer for the question is 'No'. I know that TV has negative effects on many people that some of them are addicted to it or some families can't have sincere conversations because of just watching it all the time. But for me, I think I'm not addicted to it and TV is a good way to relieve my stress. I usually got stressed out because of heavy load of school works, and I need a time to recharge my energy. By watching TV, I can laugh and just enjoy it. In this sense, I think TV takes up a necessary part in my life.

YoungHoon Kim / TV: Could you live without it? / Mon 11a.m.

During my life, there has been TV beside me. I used to watch many cartoons when I was little. Every Sunday morning, I woke up early and watched "Disney's Cartoon World" which began at 8 a.m. It was a routine for me and friends around me always talked about it. When I got older, I started to play video games with my friends. With video games, we had so much fun that we sometimes lost all track of time. In 2002, World Cup was held in Korea. Whenever the Korean match was scheduled, many people gathered in front of big TV screen to watch games. I was one of the people in the crowd and I still remember the feeling and passion I had at that time. When I was in middle school and high school, I was under pressure to study a lot. After schools and academies, I could relieve my stress by watching dramas and sports games. Nowadays, I don't watch TV as much as before because I have smart phone and laptop that have the function of TV. But, I believe TV is still necessary for me. This is because I like to watch movies in a big screen and I love to watch comedies with people around me that I can laugh together. Since TV has been located so deep inside my life, imaging that there is no TV is nightmare to me.

Park, Ji Eon/My life/Mon 11am

I may say about my life that it had been quiet tough. I failed twice in entering the university what I always wanted to go. It means that I had to study 2 more years while other students went to school and enjoyed their freshman's life. The third exam was poor so I was really depressed at that time and I didn't know what to do. Accordingly, I had to change the university where I would go, and so the major. I decided to enter HUFS and major the French which i've never studied. At first, it was really hard to study French because i didn't think that majoring what I never expect would be the result of my spending 2 more years than others. But, once I made up my mind to study French, it got more and more interesting to learn new language. However, I had to join the ROK army and it was hard to decide when to join the army. Fortunately, I was singled out as the KATUSA who serves the military duty with U.S army. So I joined the army on May 2010 and I was discharged from the army last Wednesday. It was really good experience for me to move on. Now I'm facing the second phase of my life. I was discouraged before i before I entered the army but now, I feel that I can do anything. I will do my best on everything. I can't wait to face many exciting events in the future.

TV : Could you live without it? / Park, Ji Eon / Mon 11am

Yes, I believe that living without TV is possible. Not only it's possible, I think it's better to live without TV. I know that there are many advantages of TV. It lets us to get news quickly, and also we get to have easy access to various documentaries that otherwise would have been hard to become known to public. However, I think it does more harm than good. TV wastes time and it's fatal. It makes you loose track of time and spend lots of time in front of the TV, regardless of your intention. It's just like any other addictions such as alcohol or cigarettes that you can't easily bare after being a habit. I'm living alone in a studio without TV, and I hardly feel the need of it. I can get news from the internet or the newspaper, and I could also watch documentaries through some internet search. So why risk being addicted and wasting time? I'm better off without TV.

After finish watching the dramas, together we watch a TV show called '안녕하세요'. It is a TV show which four MCs and several guests emceeing the show by listening to people's worries. On Saturday, we watch a TV show '무한도전'. It is one of my favorite TV shows. It a comedy TV show where seven men come out and do some comedy. On a next day, Sunday, at 9'o clock we watch a comedy program 'Gag Concert'. My father, who does not enjoy watching comedy programs, watches this one with rest of us. Not only myself but also my family enjoy watching TV. Watching TV is fun and it provides me with kind of a break time by making me laugh. Also TV programs work as a topic of conversation among my family. We share each other's personal opinion when watching it or after it is finished. So, as you can see, I cannot live without TV!

Could you live without TV?

This year, my wife and I made a crucial decision. We determined to turn the TV off. Needless to say, my daughter shouted that she couldn't live without TV. Ignoring the rage of her, we executed our project strictly. We turned off the machine which has reduced our productivity and played the chamber music CD to calm us down. Initially we felt awkward somehow and we couldn't find another things we would do. But after a while, something happened. My daughter started to read a book which had been stuck in her bookshelf. My wife also started to do her work which had been postponed. And I. I was studying the conjugation of German verb in spite of myself. That was the miracle made by the boredom. If you ask me if I could live without TV, my answer is this. Yes,absolutely yes!

TV, could you live without it?

I am quite sure that many people cannot live without TV nowadays and honestly, I am one of them. TV is not just an 'entertainment box' anymore. TV has taken a big role in this society giving information, knowledge and making trends for the past few years. TV is also playing an important role in my life as well. I not only watch entertainment shows but also news, national geographic and many other useful programs. However, on the other hand, I sometimes watch TV when I have tons of things to do. It is agreeable that TV is addictive and hard to live without it. However, it is definite that TV should not take over one's life no matter what. People should keep in mind that it is only enjoyable to watch TV when there is no addiction or overcommitment.

Park Tae Jun / Can you live without TV? / Mon34

It is almost impossible to live without TV these days. First of all, watching news is one of the most important and effective way of knowing current affairs in the society. In a busy society like nowadays, it's crucial for people to know not only domestic but also international issues to have a better understanding of major issues happening in the society that we live in. Without TV, it's difficult to watch news and know current affairs. Also, TV is a great tool to let people have good relationships with others. People can talk about dramas, shows and programs that they saw through TV. If one doesn't have TV and couldn't watch those programs, he or she will feel isolated because doesn't know anything about what others' are talking. Finally, watching TV gives people feeling of rest. Many people love to lie on a sofa and watch TV after getting back from work, because they feel it's the best way to take a rest. For them, time for watching TV is the most relaxing moment of a day and it gives them energy to start a fresh new day. Therefore, it is hard to imagine live without TV.

TV, could you live without it?

I see many people who really likes watching TV. It seems that TV become an important part of our lives. This is because TV is very addicted. I don't watch TV often because I prefer doing another things instead of watching TV. But, sometimes when I watch TV it is very hard to turn it off . Once I turn it on, there are so many interesting programs available, so I unconsciously watch it until my eyes get really tired. However I think watching TV unconsciously all day long is very unproductive and ineffective. In addition to that, this is not good for our health too. I think we can live without TV. But some might feel emptiness without watching TV, because they are addicted to it. Instead of watching TV, and letting time goes by, we can use that time more efficiently. For example, I think it is better to think about oneself, listen to music, and take conversation with person in direct, like family. If people try to overcome their habitual emptiness of not watching TV , they can someday live without TV, and spend time on more creative and productive things.

I think my life really has to do with English. It may seem a little bit strange, but it's true. I learned English at first when I was 10 years old . Actually I didn't want to learn English, but it was my mother who took me to an english academy. Though it was not my decision , I got interested in english after I learned it. It was very funny and pleasant for me to learning a new language. So, I go academy very earnestly and actively. There I learned all sections of english: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Grammar. Therefore My English skill developed very balanced. As time goes by I feel that my english skill gets better.

After entering middle school, my english scores in important tests are good. I think because I was equipped enough with english skills because of long training. So I liked english more and more. Also as a high school student , my favorite subject was always english, and test scores are good too. Although I've never been to foreign countries where people speak english, I liked it very much. In university life, there are so many students who are really good at english. So, I become to lose my proud. My speaking abilities are not as good as other superior students. But I still like learning english . So I think my life will be continuously has to do with english very much.

These days, it is so clear that people watch TV a lot. TV has actually become a part of our lives. People make conversations related to TV programs and it has become quite a big deal to know what was on TV yesterday. Of course due to the increase of time that people watch TV, it has become very controversial. Some parents even try to stop their kids from watching TV because kids these days are quite obsessed with TV programs. Most parents take this seriously because watching TV too much could harm their children's education. However, I think we can never live without TV. It's true that TV is only for watching, you can't make dramas and send it on TV just like you do it on the Internet, but TV is as powerful as the Internet. TV programs allure people so much that the first thing we talk about when we meet ours friends is "yesterday's drama". TV is also important in our lives because we can get crucial information on the news. It's like a reminder of daily circumstances. TV still has the biggest power in the media because TV also sends public announcements from the president or the government. People watch them because it's reliable. It's not just a screen that sends images. It's a powerful tool that people can never live without.

TV : Could you live without it?

If somebody asked me if I could live without television, me a year ago would have said,

"Of course NOT! What should I do then?"

But today, I'd say

"Sure, why not?"

It has changed a lot in a year. I started living on my on since last September and since then I don't have a TV in my house. First I thought I would get bored because I didn't have a TV, but I learned how to live without it. Actually, even if I had one, I wouldn't have time to watch it. Every day I have homework to do and essays to write. I'm also busy participating in clubs and meeting my friends. In my free time, I read books or organize my diary. I found out that I didn't have time to study or read because I wasted a lot of time sitting in front of the TV without even noticing. I'm glad I started to do stuff more productive. However, there are times I wish I had a TV. When friends laugh at something that came out from the TV, I can't follow them. Sometimes I want to watch TV dramas but I can't watch it right away. So the solution is that if there's something I really want to watch, I wait and download it. Generally, I'm glad I don't have a TV. I have plenty more fun things to do in my life now.

Kyoung-min KIm/On my life/Mon.11am

To talk about my life, singing has been a part of it all along. My mom said I had my individual favorite singer when I was 4 years old. When that singer's song came out from somewhere, I'd dance and sing along(I guess it would have been a murmur or a hum). When I was 4th grade in elemetry school, I took part in a local station's chorus. Alltogether making a harmony was a magical time for me. I sometimes attended a singing contest in ensemble and also on solo. My highschool days were full of singing activities too. I entered a school chorus club, once again savoured the magical moment when the voices combine in tune. Entering university, I tried somewhat different kind of singing. It was a musical, combined with actings and movements. I couldn't say I was content with what I did, but it was an exciting experience. Without the singing part, my life would have been less interesting for me.

Jung-In SIM / My life until now / Monday 11a.m.

Here I am simply as the results of the past that if you want to know about me, then let me tell you about my life and how it was like so far briefly. Thanks to my parents who always encouraged me to read a lot of books, I brought up while being surrounded with pile of books. And this leaded me to having interests in any linguistic things. I still really enjoy writing and reading and I can say the literature has been always with me. As I learned english at school, I came to be really into any foreign things, especially foreign languages. And English wasn't enough for me to satisfy myself, so I chose to learn French especially here at hufs where I can learn and get many foreign things easier than anywhere. Now I'm so glad that I got such a great opportunity here to learn English as well as French. I want to do my best to improve my languages so that I will be able to give something great to the world with this ability.

Hee-June, Park / My Life / Mon34

I was born in Seoul, 23 December 1992. My mother said that it was snowing heavily so, that's the why I like winter especially snowy day. I live in Ilsan. It takes about 2 hours to reach school. Thus to commute is very tough, but I prefer live with my family. Because I don't want to do anything alone. In spare time, I usually listen to musics and sing along. I like music very much, therefore I joined a club of chanson in my department. These days, in that club, I'm preparing a concert. I sing 5 songs for it. The practice is very hard and it makes me to warn out. But I believe this experience would make me more stronger and more responsable person. Also it gives me precious souvenir about university life. If you read this please come to our concert, this Friday at 7 p.m. , and Saturday 4 p.m. at BRICs Hall. What I want to really say to you is that my life is very active and happy.
