김한별Hanbyol Kim/My Favorite Relative/Mon 11a.m.

I do not have many relatives. This of this reason I am quite friendly with all of my relatives. However, I do have a favorite one among all those relatives. The relative that I am fond of the most is my uncle-in-law. He is a older brother of my mother and has been living in Dae Jeon, Korea. Now my family is living in Seoul but when I was young, our family lived in Dae Jeon for several years. During that time, I became close with my ungle-in-law. There are few reaons why I like him the most. He was a school Korean teacher by then. He was very clever and knew many things about literature and Korean. So he told me various intereting stories like old fairy tales. I really like them. Also, because of him, I started reading different kinds of book and started loving books. Now I am very grateful of that because I learn so many things from books. The second reason that I like my uncle-in-law is that he is a very generous person. Whenever I met him, he bought me candies and cookies that I love. My mother did not gave me many sweeties because she worried about my teeth so I really liked him for giving me sweet cookies. Now because I am a grown-up, he gives me pocket money istead. He gives me a lot of it. So I am very pleased whenever he gives me pocket money because I know he will give me much. In nowadays, since I am living in Seoul and Seoul and Dae Jeon is quite apart from each other, I cannot meet with him often. However, he is still my favorite relative because of his intelligence and his generosity.

Song eun Ko / To be a good physician / Mon 34

<A good physician>

To be a good physician, what virtues should the physicians have? First, they might need expertise in their own field. Physician is a medical expert who has tremendous responsibility for patients' condition, life or death. Patients believe their doctors and throw themselves on doctors's mercy. And, physicians must live up to patients' expectations. If physicians not competent enough are not careful, they may harm patient's life. Second virtue is an ability that explains patients' symptoms and treatments easily to understand. Patients have a right to understand their conditions and efficient cure thoroughly. Most of them are not familiar with medical field, so they have no choice but to fully comply with doctor. Even doctors have perfect specialized knowledge, however they can' t give an explanation simply to patients. What is the use of talking? The last thing is 'modest attitude'. Some doctors are too conceit to ignore patients. They can't listen carefully to voices of patients. There may be chances that make a wrong diagnosis. They must pay particular attention not to make an error. If a physician meet these three qualifications, he/she can be a good physician.

The best doctor in my memory

What does it take to be a good physician? People might have different opinions about this; some might say superior skill, kindness, reputation, etc. I think a doctor who is kind to his or her patients is a good physician. I've met many doctors since I was a weak child. To me, doctors were scary figures because they always gave injections and made me painful. Also, they always had serious and dark faces which scared me even more. However, one doctor, even though I can't remember his name, at Hospital of Seoul National University was an exceptional doctor. Whenever I met him, he always had a smile on his face and asked me what was going with me. Not only that, unlike other doctors, he spent ten to fifteen minutes for telling explanations to me and my parents about the illness I had and things I had to beware of very specifically. When I was hospitalized for a month, he came to see me at least twice a day to see if I was alright. Other doctors made their rounds too since they were duty, but I could feel the doctor's caring emotion unlike other doctors. Also, when I was to leave the hospital, he gave me a toy for present. Although I never met him again, I strongly believe that he, who was kind to his patients, was definitely a good physician.

Ji Eun Lee/ Good physician/ Mon 11am.

What does it mean by being a good physician?

There are many physicians in different fields, and I think there are some important virtues of doctors that should apply to all. There are two important values, and one of them is competence as a doctor. It means that the physician should have great skill and a lot of medical knowledge. It would be no use if a doctor has poor skills with diagnosing or surgery, because it could lead to serious problems such as side effects or even death. For example, I once was very sick when I was in elementary school. My family and I had thought it was just a bad cold and we decided to go to a small hospital near home. Even though I kept taking medicine that the doctor had prescribed, I didn't get better. So I went to a university hospital and found out that the cold had been developed into pneumonia. Luckily the physician in charge helped me to get over the illness and I'm still appreciated him. If the doctor whom I first diagnosed from was competent with trustworthy skills, I would have not had to experience such a hard time. Next, the physician should be generous to patients. The doctors are the ones who have to heal their body and mind also. If they don't respect the patients, they also don't have rights to be respected. For instance, I usually go to see the same doctor whenever I get sick. Not only does he have great skills, but also he knows how to treat patients. Once I went to the hospital in lunch and the doctor was willing to diagnose me even though he was not supposed to do. He always listens to what I say and give an advice if needed. He once said that he felt satisfied with his job because he could help people by sharing his ability. Also he wanted to make people happy both physically and mentally. I think he deserves to be highly respected as a genuine physician. In conclusion, as seen in two examples above, patients would get better if those virtues are commonly shared between all doctors

Kyeong-eun Lee / A Good Physician / Mon34

< A Good Physician >

I have a doctor whom I consider him my family's physician. He has run his hospital in an apartment complex where I had lived for more than 20 years. Why is he my family's physician? Because he is very kind to all of his patients, and it made him so familiar not only to my family but also to our neighbors that we think of him as our attending doctor. Then what is the specific feature that makes him special? It is kindness. Let me explain the examples. First of all, he remembers his patients' personal affairs. For instance, he did not forget which university I entered, and what my major is, so he always asks me like "Majoring economics is very tough, huh?" or "Have you joined in a club? It will help your university lives." Second, he feels sympathy with his patients. Actually, one of my cousins was very sick last year, and we took her to the doctor. My cousin was very worried about whether her illness would last long or not; noticing her worries, the doctor explained her exact states and his prospects about her illness. Thanks to the doctor, she got relieved – and it finally uncovered that her illness was not serious. Even though it was not serious, my cousin overcame the fear thanks to him. Last one, he is competent. One of the keys a physician has to have is the ability to heal the diseases. I used to be sick when I was 20. Whenever I have a fever, my mother took me to his hospital – and going back home, I gotten better soon. You may ask me didn't he use the amounts of antibiotics. I also used to check whether he uses much antibiotics or not, and it revealed that he us as least as possible. These three reasons are attracting me and my family members going forward to the hospital whenever we got sick. And we feel relieved to have such a kind and competent physician whom we can depend on.

My dream president

A presidential election will be held in Korea next year. I wish to vote for a trustworthy candidate who will satisfy the people. There are countless virtues a leader should possess. First of all, I regard modesty the foremost factor. A president or a prime minister is just a person voted by citizens and have a strong responsibility to serve for them. In other words, a domineering manner is unacceptable. People have to be prioritized first. Trying to make more active communications and listening to their real stories by heart should be in practice. Other than carrying out designated official duties, caring his/her people in person is the real genuine leader. In addition, a president should be far-sighted and think globally. Unlike C.E.O who is giving requirements of the moment, the president has to think differently considering the far future of the country. Also, as this world is internationally connected, seeking how to coexist with various countries all over the world is necessary. Eventually, not forgetting his/her original intention and public promises before becoming a president will succeed presidential term. I will definitely vote for a candidate who meets all those conditions.

'Values that good physicians should have'

There are several values to be a good physician, but I think the most important two things are ability as a physician and love for patients. First of all, physicians have to be competent when treating patients. They can never be a good physician if they are lack of medical knowledge and have poor skills, even though they are absolutely diligent and nice to patients. The ability for each occupation is quite natural thing, however in case of physician is more significant because they handle people's health and often their life too. For example, I once had to go to the hospital because my tonsils were harshly swollen. The physician who treated me was really unfriendly and cynical, but I remembered him as a good doctor as he cured me well and I recovered fast. Secondly, physicians must love patients. Patients are the reason why they exist. Therefore its their duty to always concern about them and consider better ways how to face them. There are many physicians who have outstanding treatment skills. However, doctors who are remembered for a long time in our heart and memory are those who sincerely take care of us. Albert Schweitzer is the most representative man of this. Thus I definitely think a good physician is who has both great skill and powerful love for their patients.

Jean Park/ My Dearest Sister/ Mon34

<My Dearest Sister>

201101481 Jean Park

My favorite relative is my cousin Ji Yeon. Even though she's 10 years older than me, I feel like she's my real sister and also a best friend. The reason why I feel so close to her is that because I lived with her since I was born. Both of my parents had their job so I was raised in my aunt's house. I lived at there Monday to Friday and my parents took me in the weekends. Thus, I spent a lot of time with my aunt's family including my cousin Ji Yeon. Since our age gap was big, we never fought but she treated me like a little sister that she needs to take care. She changed my diapers, washed me and brought me to home when the kindergarten was finished. If I think back, she looked after me like a mother and still she always contacts me and takes care of me. Furthermore, not only she acted like a mother but also she was an good advisor and a playmate. I really enjoyed telling her about my latest worries and thoughts about specific subjects. For instance, I only have a younger brother so it was hard for me to share my personal concerns with him. Although, with my cousin, we used to go to hot spa and spent a night at there chatting and talk about celebrities' gossips. In addition, since she was much older than me, she always gave me a helpful advise to go through the difficult periods of my life. Now, she's married and has her own family so we cannot see each other that often like we used to in the past. However Ji Yeon is still my favorite cousin and my precious sister whom I rely a lot.

NaYeon Kwon/ A president I would vote for/ Mon34

What Takes To Be a Leader

A persident I would vote for is someone with magnanimity and responsibilty. Leader is someone who represents and embrace the whole group and a president should also be somesone who can embrace other's voices instead of falling into dictatorship. In the past, people thought power and authority was given from God and never questioned what kind of  a person should be a leader. As a result, many of the  kings abused their power. However, as time went by, people realized that in the democratic society, president should make a choice based on the citizens' thoughts and try his best not to harm anyone's benefit. However, as there are always two sides of the same coin, mediation is not an easy job. That's why president's role is so important. For example, President Bush carried forward the War Against Terror despite people's opposition. He pushed ahead the plan ignoring their worries. As a result, thousands of soliders and civilians died out without no outcome. Likewise, listening to people's opinions and embracing them is essential as a respectable leader. Moreover, a president should have responsiblity no matter what he does avoiding lame duck syndrome. For instance, as Korea persisit the single-term system for the presidency, at the end of the term, people say that many of them tend to fall in lame duck syndrome. Like this, I believe as a president, having magnanimity which embrace all people's opinions and responsibilty which avoids indolence is essential. Thus, a president I would vote for is someone who is accepting and responsible.

Oh You Jeong/The worst waiter/mon34

The worst waiter

Are waiters always nice an kind? Do they always offer the best service to customers? The answer would probably lean to "NO". Of course the waiters who work at expensive restaurants or hotels might be trained well so that the customers would feel pleasant, but there are lots of restaurants that have the worst waiters. People have met the worst waiters at least once in their lives, and they all have similar characteristics. First, worst waiters do not care much about customers. Sometimes they would just ignore customers. Everything becomes self service, from ordering to cleaning the table. Second, when a bad situation happens, for example, if there was a bug in the food and the customer called the waiter and complained about it, instead of apologizing, the worst waiter would never apologize and say it's the customer's fault. Sometimes they would say bad words in the back or get in a fight with the customers. Lastly, worst waiters play with food. They don't take it serious about other customer's meals. For example, they accidently spilled some food on the ground, and then they would just put the dirty food on the plate. I understand that working is exhausting but these behaviors make customers not want to go to the restaurant next time.

YoungHoon Kim / My favorite relative / Mon 11a.m.

Cousin like a Friend and a Senior

201100652 YoungHoon Kim

My cousin named YoungJin Kim is the person that I like the most among my relatives. He is a son of my father's younger brother. He was born in 1991 like me but he went to the school 1 year faster than me. This fact made two good things. First, as a friend of the same age, he and I could get along very well. In summer vacations, we went to the beach and swam in the sea. We made sand castles and had barbeques in the villa near the beach. We had a lot of fun memories that we can still remember. But there was an accident that I still remember. It was cloudy day and we swam in the sea. Suddenly, dark clouds covered the sky and started to rain. With the rain, the waves got higher and higher. Because of the high tides, I couldn't swim to the shore because the waves pulled me to the sea. I was frightened and started to cry. Then, my cousin saw me and called the lifeguard for help. After a while, I was rescued by the safety guard. After that case, I trusted him by my heart. In winter, we used to ski in YongPyeong ski resort. Actually he taught me how to ski and I could be a pretty good skier. We liked to have a thrill so we challenged to the difficult slope and had fun. Also I remember the "HwangTae Gui" restaurant that we always dropped by on the way home after skiing. Like this, we had a good recollection to share. Second, as a senior of mine by one year, he was like my older brother. He helped me with the studies and consulted me when I had problems in the school. With his help, I didn't have big problems when I was a teenager. One thing that I was fully thankful about him was that he came by my academy when I was preparing for the university entrance exam. At that time, I was nervous about my future and had a hard time. He dropped by my academy without notice and bought me a delicious meal and a book named "Painful is the growing" in Korean. I was impressed by his support and the book so I could have strength. Until now, he always tries to help me like my older brother. Being like my friend and senior at the same time, my cousin, YoungJin Kim is my favorite relative.

< love and hatred relationship >

My favorite relative is my cousin. She is three years older than me and has similar characteristics to me. Her family lives in New Zealand, so I have been there when I was 11 years old for about a month. I have to share a room with her only because she was the youngest of her family. At that time, we became like sisters german, but also fought a lot. The night before I came back to Korea, we fought again for the reason that I did not wash the dishes even though it was my turn. I know the reason was too childish but we were serious at then. Thus we did not contact for few years after then. When I became 18, however, she came to my home to live for a while because she entered the university in Korea. Likewise, we have to share the room together again, but we did not fight anymore. I think it was because we both are not young anymore to fight for such a small reason. Instead, we talked a lot. At then I had a turbulent adolescence, thus I had a both external conflict with my mom and emotional conflict created in my mind. My cousin became a wise mediator between my mom and me. Since out age gap was no so big, we could speak the same language, different to my conservative mom. Whenever I was in trouble with friends or family, she gave me a lot of mature advices. Sometimes she gave an allowance and we also shared our clothes. Now she lives separately from me, in front of her university, however we meet often and talks a lot. She is not only my favorite relative, but also my best friend until now and maybe now and forever.

WHO deserves to be the PRESIDENT?

Today, I will talk about essential requirements of a genuine leader. As a political leader, first of all, he should be able to give a solution to current problems as well as fully understand each of areas that the government has to deal with. Of course, it is impossible that only one person handle every branch. So, in order to carry out country's affairs, support of many competent people is really needed. In other words, the person who have a eye to discern talented people is the suitable leader we can trust and support. Second, he must take charge of what he says and does. We have many experiences with the presidents who have so low memory capacity that they could not remember anything against themselves. We shouldn't repeat same mistake. We have to thoroughly verify candidates' past so as to decrease possible disaster. At last, to become the best leader, he should have political leadership. Although he has all the other abilities, he will not be able to conduct state affairs without political competence. He should sometimes be able to embrace his enemy as well as his enthusiastic admirers. If anyone who runs for next president election has all of these requirements, I will vote for him without hesitation.

The worst waitress ever

I remember one waiter who was working at the bar. There were lots of people on the street at that night. I went to one bar to celebrate my finishing military duty with my friend. I was excited because it was not only the party but also friday night. The bar was full of people. And the waiting time was about 30 minutes. Other bars were the same. So we decided to wait there. After 1 hour, there were still no signs of calling us from the waitress who said to us that the waiting time was about 30 minutes. It transpired that she totally forgot about us and let other guests go in who came there later than us. We were upset and one of my friends complained about it. All we just wanted was a little apology but it was the other way around. She didn't even answer and let us in. After we took a seat, she came to us for the order. We ordered some foods and beer. And we talked about our future, especially school life until the order came out. In the meantime, she came with food. And the food was not what we ordered. We ordered spicy flavored chicken but she brought a strange sushi. I can't even eat sushi, exactly raw food. She should offer apology to us and may well change our food. That's the common sense. But she didn't say a word for this and said just eat that food. It was embarrasing situation and we had nothing to say. We want to talk about her unkindness with the owner, but the owner was not there. So we just drank beer and went to the other bar. I didn't see the waiter or waitress like her. I don't know how she can work there with that attitude.

Hakyung Chin/ The worst waiter/ MON 11AM

Let me serve you the worst meal ever

Have you ever had an unpleasant experience in a restaurant? If you have, I believe in most cases they are due to bad waiters. I think there are three conditions to be a bad waiter. The first condition is to be inattentive. There are some waiters who think they are the customers not us. For example, sometimes they just give us a glance and go without taking any orders or snap back rudely to our questions. In my case, I was once waited by a waiter who put the food on the table with big noises and almost threw the spoons and chopsticks at us. The next condition is being forgetful. We understand when the restaurant is crowded and all the waiters are busy. However, sometimes it goes too far. For example, we have to remind the waiter what we ordered over and over again. Once, I went to a restaurant in the peak time. I ordered a pizza and waited for 30 minutes. I thought it was taking a while because there were a lot of customers. But when I asked the waiter when I could get my pizza, I found out that they didn't take my order properly and I was waiting for nothing. The last condition of being the worst waiter is being untidy. Being untidy includes being dirty and sloppy. For example, I once went to a Korean restaurant and the waiter brought the soup with her thumb in it. I couldn't argue then, but I was not quite happy with it. Some waiters spill the food over the table or over the customers. We know that they didn't intend to do that, but that makes a meal unpleasant. A waiter who meets one of these conditions is a bad waiter, who meets two of these, a worse waiter. Of course, who meets all of them the worst waiter ever.

JungIn SIM/About me/Mon 34

About me

The fittest word that can describe me well is 'creative'. I can give you three examples to explain why I think like this. First, I took a course of 'creative writing' last semester. There, I not only got a good mark, which means I did quite a good job, but also enjoyed very much the whole moments while joining the class. I found that I truely enjoy thinking and organizing plots and writing poems and novels. After this great opportunity where I found one of my gifts, I've been still trying not to stop creating pieces of writing.

Actually I've been always eager to express myself and my thoughts in various ways. When I was young, I sometimes composed short melodies with piano -whether they sound horrible or not-, sometimes drew cartoons on my own. I think creating is what only can human do, which is so amazing. That's why I highly estimate the value of creating. But at the same time, creating isn't something hard to access or deal with. The creation also can be used even in an usual short conversation between friends. For example, I sometimes surprise people or make them laugh by saying words that nobody didn't think out and I also regard it as the power of creation.

After all, as I like to be this creative and want to be more creative person, I pick the word 'creative' to describe myself.

Sense of Place

Being slow in 'Slow Turtle'

Whenever I have work to do or studies for the exam, I always find my favorite café 'Slow Turtle'. It is located near my house. All covered with glass walls, I can check vacant seats to sit before entering. The moment I open the door, the owner welcomes me with a big smile and beautiful coffee scent. On the door side, a long high table with high chairs is installed. Just behind, a wooden square big table with 4 comfortable chairs is facing a huge bookshelf. In that bookshelf, various books are ready to read. Next to the bookshelf, the owner makes coffee in front of the gigantic coffee machine. When ordered cup of coffee is ready, she calls out the name of coffee and the customer pays when taking it. There are three white middle-sized tables with 4 black modern cozy chairs each in middle of the café. At the very back from the door, there is a tiny bathroom where only one person can go. Because it is a very small and cozy place, I feel peace whenever I go there. Even not for studying, sipping a cup of coffee reading a book or looking outside through the wall relieves my stress. Like the name "Slow Turtle', its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere made me V.I.P of that café.

<My grandmother's house : sticking in my mind>

In my hometown, there is my grandmother's house in which my father, uncle, aunts were born and grew up. The best feature of it is its front garden and a backyard. In the front garden, there are three apple trees side by side like close friends and there is a small vegetable garden that my grandmother has tended with love and care. Green cucumber, lettuce and red tomatoes are growing ripe there. She always hand out them to my family generously. I can feel pleasant air and refreshing scent blow gently to me when I open the gate and enter into there. At the same time, thankful mind to her generosity gets bigger. In the backyard, there are old fireplace and many bundles of firewood. There is a low wooden bench in front of the fireplace. Since I was a little child, I often played on it and used to eat slices of watermelon in summer. And my grandmother would bake some yellow sweet potatoes on the fireplace by burning wood and share them to me. They are very hot and sweet!

I think my grandmother's house gives me many things: Fresh fruits, vegetables, tasteful watermelon, sweet potatoes and her "heartful love". I can feel that my grandmother is so affectionate towards me like the big apple trees and vegetable garden gave us fruits with a free hand. My grandmother and her house will always be sticking in my mind forever!

Giving What?

What does giving mean? I ask my friends "Can you explain what kind of person I am?", and almost everyone would say "You are a giving person". People who know me well always say I am giving too much. I try to deny it at first, but I think I am a giving person. I spend too much time, money, and my care to other people. Of course I don't care that much about the ones I don't know. I care about my friends and family and sometimes I happened to care too much. When I'm with the ones I love and care, I usually buy them food and sometimes presents. Why am I doing such thing? Spending a lot of money not for myself but for others? I think it's a way of expressing my feelings. I buy them lunch and when they are happy about it, I get happy too. I just can't be the person who doesn't spend money on the ones beside me. Besides, when I give them something, they give me back. It's none of my intention but they give me back because they also care about me. I like that kind of relationship and that's why I'm giving out my things. To build that tight relationship with others. I know I'm giving to much but I'm not going to stop this because I love what I'm doing.

My best quality, hard working

I am proud of myself being hard working. This personality surely has given good effects in my life. First, I study hard spending time as much as I can. It doesn't mean that I am an excellent student, but I try hard when there is something that I should keep up with. For example, when I was in the United States, my English skill was poor at the first time. Even though I used English every day at school, the fluency was still poor compared to other native speakers, of course. However there was something that I was better than other students. I did all of my homework every time and whenever there was an essay assignment, I wrote several times for the better one. At that time I didn't want to let Americans ignore me just because I was Asian who didn't speak English well. This thinking led me to become a hard working student, and finally I got awarded as an honor student. This kind of consistent effort doesn't only apply to an academic aspect, but also to a time management. I live in Ilsan where it takes 2 hours away from the school. I always get up early in the morning 3 hours before a first class. I was tired physically and mentally at first, but I got used to it. I learned how to handle time thanks to diligent commute. Therefore, I think the most important value of me is hard working.

Park, Hee-june / About me / Mon34

When I was young, I had my own empire: my family. In that kingdom, I was a dictator, because I am an only child. So, in that time, I was an egoist, and I satisfied that. However, after I had entered an elementary school, the situation was entirely changed. Of course, first time, I acted like a princess. But as time went on, there was no one who wants to play with me. In that small, but organized society, I was just a girl like other people. Nobody wanted to do anything that I imposed. But I didn't change my personality a lot, and I stuck to my opinion. But when I was 14 years old, something happened to me, which changed my life completely. There was a big quarrel about my personality between me and my friends. They said they suppressed their anger for long time, and they couldn't do it anymore. I was very shocked. Because I thought they are my best friends. So, finally, I realized my serious problem of personality, and I tried to change it into a sociable one. Now, I have many friends and I have little problem caused of my personality. Also, after I succeeded it, I have very positive attitude. At last, I become a sociable and positive person.

Who Am I?

At first I got this topic, I couldn't strike anything and I didn't know what I should write on this white sheet. I thought about it again and again. Finally I found there were so many words that show me. First, I am a romantic who enjoys going for a walk in the moonlight as listening to some ballads. It is very happy moment for me. Second, I am a sleeper who escapes pressure and reality through having a restful siesta. A couple of hours' nap certainly help me pick spirit. Third, I am a person who regard personal relationship as important. I think many people around me are precious to me regardless of who he is. Because they can be teachers, friends, haven, and energizer of my life. I always try to keep good relationships with them. And the next, I am a person who makes up in spirit and hard work what I lack in talent. When I was a freshman, economics exams bothered me. It's no exaggeration to say that I didn't know anything about that field. Nevertheless I studied hard to get a good grade with courage and I can get A+on economics exams. Passion from ComPassion

201100652 YoungHoon Kim

When I think of the word that describes me the best, I come to realize that the vocabulary "compassion" fits me well. I'm not saying here that I'm such a nice person who feels sorry for poor people. Through various experiences and activities, I think I'm compassionate person. Among them, I'd like to tell you about 3 examples that show that I'm sympathetic. I went to Cambodia for sightseeing when I was middle school student. I was overwhelmed by huge and elaborate monuments there but it was not the scene that I can still remember by heart vividly. I was totally shocked when I saw dozens of children begging for money. Since I was grown up in the quite wealthy country, it was the first time to see that many little beggars. At that night, I couldn't fall asleep for a long time and firmly decided to help poor children whenever I can. I think it was kind of passion that came from compassionate mind. With this passion, I joined the community service club when I got into the university. I went to the community service center with the name translated as "Call of Life" in English and taught some elementary school students. At first, I had hard time drawing attention from them but as time went by I could make them concentrate on studies. When I initially met those students, I felt sorry about their situation that they were not wealthy enough to get good education. But after I got familiar with them I started to see them as good brothers and sisters, not the children that I should feel pity about. Passion that I shared with students moved into donation. One day, Korean actor named "InPyo Cha" visited my church and explained donation program called "Compassion". It's a program that helps poor children and there are two ways to assist. One is donating some money every month to the foundation. The other is making connection with one child and giving a hand to this child until he or she graduates from high school. I was moved by this program and I decided to donate. Since them I have sent money to poor kids. I feel happy that I can assist somebody else who really need my help. I won't lose this passion and will deliver compassion wherever that I can reach.

Who is Joan ?

I had lots of chances to introduce about my basic information, but to describe myself, I would define me as an active person. For example, I took a role as a leader wherever I went even in kindergarten days. I tried to play fairly with friends and shared all my toys. From elementary to high school, coping with all the classmates as a class president was my usual life. I enjoyed playing with new, various friends through participating in club activities and camps in adolescence. Thinking that diverse experiences are important for enriching my life, taking parts in volunteering programs, contests and traveling around the world are what I pursue and practice until now since middle school. I'm a person who makes chances not just waiting for them to come without putting any efforts. Now that I'm a university student, I'll create plenty of chances and activate all the time to become a global leader.

Adventure is My Life

Jean Park

Whenever I face a question like 'what kind of person I am?', I always find it hard to define myself. This time, it was also difficult to describe myself in one word but finally I reached to the conclusion that I am an adventurous person. First, I don't hesitate when doing something that's completely new to me. For instance, when I went to Nepal last winter, I had a chance to experience a homestay with Nepalese family. After having a nice supper, my homestay mother gave me a strange drinks. With my body language and using five senses, I find out that it was a homemade alcohol. To be honest, that alcohol looked peculiar and also stank so much, none of my Korean friends didn't wanted to try, though I just drank without any hesitation. Well the result was I drank and just fell into sleep, but it was an interesting experience and I don't regret for it. Furthermore, since I am a person with full of curiosity, I only feel satisfied after try something that I wanted to do it. When I was a little girl, about five or six, I used to catch an ant and confine the ant in a pencil case and would sit there all day long to watch how ant lives. Now if I think back, I don't even know why I was curious about ant's lives but I believe because I had inquisitive mind, I behaved like that. These are just fragmentary examples of how adventurous person I am. I admit sometimes, I get negative results because of my personality though I believe that is my advantage and I'm proud of myself.

I may describe myself as an active and shy person at the same time. When I meet people at first, I'm quiet and don't talk much with other people. That's because I hate awkward atmosphere between new people. But once I get to know them, I become not only a talker, but also an active person. I really enjoy being with my friends talking, playing music and drinking. Also, I play rock music with my friends. It can be thought that playing music in group is nothing but a playing music and that's all. What I mean is it can be considered that it's no more or no less than playing music. But there's something more than that. Playing ensemble can't be worked well without trust and understanding with each other. That means that people who's belonged to the band and playing music as a part of the band should be active. So I think introverts may not fit in the band. That's why I like to be in the band and love to play with other people. I said that I'm an active person through only 1 example but I think this is the best thing which can show my personalily best. In conclusion, I might be a shy person with people who's strange to me, but once I become intimate with them, I'm an active and funny person.

Music lover

I am a music-loving person. I can not explain myself without saying music. For that much, music takes an important part of my life. There are several examples that proves my characteristic as a music lover. First of all, I played piano for a long time. I learned piano about 7 years when I was young. I wanted to learn more but I had to stop learning because I had to study for my high school. Even though I stopped going to the piano academy, I played the piano almost everyday. Whenever I had money, I bought music scores that I wanted to practice. Up until now, piano is my favorite instrument and it relieves my feelings when I got stressed out or I felt gloomy. Also, I love guitar very much. As soon as I finished my college entrance exam, I bought guitar. Since I had much free time at that period, I learned basic guitar techniques and spend most of my time practicing the guitar. When playing the guitar for the first time, my fingers really hurt that I want to give up. However I made an persistent efforts, callus formed in my fingers. Since then I could play it more easily and my fingers does not hurt any more. Now, I'm in a acoustic guitar club in HUFS, which is called noraenarae. I definitely love to share musical feelings and do band ensemble together. Lastly, of course, I love listening to various kinds of music. I especially like jazz, but I also listen rock, R&B, ballad, Hiphop, Folk, and many other genres too. Finding good songs and listen to it, and if I can, covering that song by piano or guitar gives me great pleasure. It makes me cheerful and energetic. Thanks to music, my life is much dynamic and happier.

Who I think I am

I am a healthy person. I try to be healthy both physically and mentally. For example, I have tried many sports activities like swimming, skating, running and recently I strated yoga. It's not only good for the diet but also helps me to be calm. Also, I try to eat healthy foods. Once, I tried to be come a vegetarian and told all my friends and family. However, as such changes could not be made in one day, I failed. Especially because I like greasy, salty food, it wasn't easy. However, instead of just giving up, I kept trying eating vegetables as much as possible avoiding meat. Moreover, I try not to get angry and be healthy mentally. When I was younger, I tended to get mad or frustrated easily which made my own life miserable. However, through reading many philosophy books, I suddenly realized that getting angry towards others only makes myself more painful. Thus, I try to think in a positive way without negative prejudice. Some people might say that trying to live a healthy life takes too much effort and time. However, I surely believe it is worth it.

Kyeong-eun Lee / My Personality / Mon34

Title: I am a shy person.

I'm a shy person. I often have difficulties in making relationships with new friends or expressing my opinions in large groups. When I was a freshman, I met my university friends on the orientation day for the first time. Even though many other guys communicated each other with curiosity, I was the one in the silence. I did not know what to say, so just stayed calm listening what others say. My being shy person also can be witnessed in my classes in the university. Nowadays, it has become an important virtue to participate in classes actively, so most professors motivate students to take part in class activities. However, for me, expressing my opinion in the classroom is very touch; when I have a presentation in front of classmates, I often have vibrating hands and voices, making me more nervous. After entering university, I've tried to be positive and confident in front of large audiences, but it is still hard for me. Because of my shyness, I have experienced such embarrassing things in the university, yet I'm trying to overcome it, preparing my future career.

Park Tae Jun / About Me / Mon34

Living as an optimistic person

A right word to fully express my personality is optimism. Since when I was a young boy, my mother often told me "Always be optimistic. Then you will have nothing to get stress": this lesson has led me to become an optimistic person. There are many evidences proving that I am an optimist. For example, I got my purse stolen in subway by pickpocket, but I didn't get angry or depressed. Rather, I felt relieved because I only had few cash and a debit card in the pocket. A phone call to bank saying that my card was stolen prevented the pickpocket to use my stolen debit card and I appreciated the fact I just lost small amount of money and it won't do any major harm to me. Also one other example of showing that I'm an optimistic person is revealed when I worked as a part-timer a year ago. Manager at the work often asked part-timers to overwork, usually until 11pm, because there were files of work that should be done urgently. Most of the part-timers refused to overwork and get back home at 6 pm saying they are exhausted. However, I always volunteered to remain in the office until late at night, because I could earn more money by working extra-hours. I knew if I get back home, I would just watch TV and fall asleep. Instead of doing that, in my "optimistic view", it was better to work extra-hours to make more money and use it on weekend. This is the way I see on facts that other people might consider as negative I've always thought living optimistically have made life happy until now, and strongly believe it will be the same in the future.

It is very hard to define myself in few sentences, however, I will tell you about my aggressive, outgoing personality. I think this kind of personality is strongly influenced by my younger brother. I was his really kind sister when he was young. But as he grew older, he learned Tae gwon do and tried to practice his skills on me. Because I have a very high competitive spirit, I also tried not to lose. But always the winner was my mom. Whenever we fought frantically before we went to bed, soon my mom came to us and we had to stand in the corner holding up our hands. And also I was a leader of the kids in the neighborhood. After school, I always went to a playground with all of my friends to have a gunfight with a toy gun. My mom always worried about me because too often I had purple bruise on my arms and she wanted me to be a gentle and quiet girl. But thanks to this personality, I made many friends and became a president for six years straight when I was in the elementary school. Now my brother became my best friend, and sometimes he told me that he was proud of me because no one could harass him. I do not fight with friends or my brother anymore but I am still a very outgoing person. Now that I am 22 years old and in my second year of university, I decided to take this personality as a means to approach my future dream.

Thinker, tring to be a doer.

 201100259 Kyungmin, Kim

My mom always says to me that I should worry less and just go for it. That's because I am such a thinker rather than a doer. For example, I jot down my to-read-list, to-make-list and lots of other to-do-lists, but don't start them right away. I keep it aside and make it a later event. And also, it takes quite a time for me to start something. I think about the reasons I should do it, pros and cons about it, and sometimes write them down to total up. Some say that I spend too much time on making decisions, and I could miss the chance if I don't decide things right away. That might be true, but I'd choose to loose some of the chances rather to grab them without my pondering. Much thinking before the actual work helps me to have confidence in the work and to believe in my decision till the end of the work. So though others might say that I think too much before I start, I believe thinking makes a half way to be a doer.

Kim Namhye/ My personality/ Mon34

Well, it was hard to conclude my personality, because I haven't seriously thought about this. But, in  my opinion, I'm an optimsitic person. This is because I accept facts that other people regard as a bad thing in a  good way. That is, I conciously change my thinking. As an example of this is about my dailylife. I go to school by subway. Here I have to transfer 3 time, although the total station is only 14. This means every 4th station I have to go out of station and transfer to another station. When I talk about this fact to my friends or parents, they say it seems very annoying to go to school.  I agree their opinion. In addition to that , It takes more time compare to go straight without transfering. But, I become to think it positively. First, while I transfer to another stations, I walk a lot, and I think it is good for my health. I regard it as a tiny exercise on each day, instead of exhausting walking. Also, I think if I go straight 14 stations without transfering, I might feel boring and tedious. Staying in the same spot for 40 minute seems for me enervate and sleepy. So, it is better to trasfer each 4 station and be active before I get bored. Some might say it's nosense and only a self contentment, but I think changing one's own thought in a positive way is necessary and useful for oneself.

김한별Hanbyol Kim/About Me/Mon11a.m.

Many people wander to answer to the question: Who am I? Like them, I spend many years to define myself. I cannot say I am 100% certain about myself but at least I have some ideas about myself. I would describe myself as both active and shy person. You might find this awkward because these are two words which exactly contradict each other. Let me explain this. I am an active person because I like to spend some time with people. I love sharing warm interactions with people. I like laughter of people and stories shared among them. I become more energetic and talkative when I meet with my close friends. Also I enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling and mountain climbing. However, some aspects of me are definitely 'shy'. Even though I love having personal relationships with people I feel difficulties when I first meet people. It is hard for me to break the ice and get to know them at first. For example, all of my friends say I looked really a cold person when they first met me. That is because I become very shy in front of strangers and people that I do not know. Another reason that I describe myself as shy is because I also love time of my own. I do not feel depressed when I am on my own. When I am alone I self-reflect and enjoy the time. The words, 'active' and 'shy', even though they are two very different I cannot find any other words that can describe me better than these.

Wonpil Lee / About me / Monday 11 am

Observer

I am an observer. I am not involved in a situation and just keep looking at it. For example, in a relationship with other people, I would never like to intrude on privacy of anyone and be intruded on mine. For this reason, I do not show my sincere feelings if possible. Thus, I have few friendships and spend most of my time alone. Another example, I cannot do something actively, because I feel uneasy when I have to deal with a situation that I have not finished to analyse yet. In fact, I would like to flee from being involved in situations that I cannot control. So, many people think I am shy, though, I am not. However, there are some virtues in my personality. I do not make a mistake so often owing to my cautiousness. I do something after I observe, study, and practice enough. This helps me handle any hard tasks without a mistake. That's why some people think I am competent without knowing my hidden struggle just like a noble swan. Also I can always keep calm in any negative circumstances, because I already checked probable outcomes and prepared to manage it. My life attitude has pros and cons. I will try to maximize the positive aspects of my personality and minimize the negative as a noble observer.

Self-Centered As a Peach

Like many people, I discover what kind of person I am everyday. I tried to define myself in some words or some sentences, but I reached to a conclusion : that is IMPOSSIBLE. However, I could define part of myself that I am self-centered. I think I am self-centered because I don't know myself very well and therefore I am always paying attention to my own thoughts. For example, I often get pointed out that I am not listening to others. I am obviously looking at them, but with the eye that shows that my mind is somewhere else. My friend was telling me about her fight with her boyfriend the other day. I was listening to her at first, but as I got bored I started to think about how my diet was going. My friend noticed and really got upset. Sometimes I get pointed out that I say unexpected and irrelevant stuff. I don't understand them because everything I say is related within my mind. Thoughts just don't pop out from nowhere.  Everything is related in my mind like a chain, but people don't get it. Also, I prefer individual homework and presentations to group presentations. I don't want to get low grades becuase of someone else and it is a bothersome job to arrange meetings. So sometimes I do all the job in group projects because I think my way is the best and because I don't want to get low grades. Now that I think of it, I am quite a self-centered person. Sometimes its good, but I will try to hear other people's thoughts. But I will keep listening to what my heart says. Being self-centered isn't neccessarily being a egoist.

김한별HanByolKim/A Way to Travel That Inerests Me/Mon 11a.m.

There are many ways to travel. Among all the ways of travelling, some people might enjoy riding bicycle the most. May be some people prefer taking a train

to any other means of transportaition. However, to me, walking is my best way of travel. I love walking and prefer this way of travelling compared to others. I

have a very simple reason for this. It is bacause I can haver a better look on my surroundings when I walk. If I take other transportation, I often miss a lot of

things. The scenery just slips away when I ride on a bicycle, a train, a bus, a car or any other kinds of the transportation. However, if I walk, I can enjoy my

surroundings fully. For example, if I can get a chance to walk on a road of countryside, I might experience these sorts of things: smells of fresh grass and

trees, scants of flowers, warm yellow sun light, weak breeze, tweets of some birds, fluffy touch of the earth and so on. These would be he things that I would never meet if I choose to take others ways of travelling. Yes,I might suffer from blisters and stiff back, but I would not regret choosing walking as my way of

travel because it presents me more delightments!

Jung-In SIM / A favorite piece of art or music / Mon 3.4

My favorite piece of music is 'Chaconne (Partita for solo violin No.2 BWV 1004-5 chaconne)' composed by Bach.J.S. As it's so famouse and loved by so many people for a long time, there are various versions of this music by guitar, piano and so on, although it was actually composed for violin. It was last winter vacation that I came to know this music. I met an italian whose job is musician who plays classical guitar, while traveling USA during summer vacation last year. I keeped in touch with him by exchanging emails so many times after I came back home. Then in last winter vacation, he sent me a parcel including a cd where his playing is recorded as a gift. And that was the first time I listened to the 'Chaconne' played by guitar. I was so into this music that I found other versions and listened to them all. Though it's all same music under the name of 'Chaconne by Bach' , there are many differences among each of them as they are plyaed by different musical instruments. But I like the version of violin and guitar the most. The violin version, the original one, sounds very sad and strong that it makes me imagine a woman suffering from a deep sadness and anger. On the other hand, the guitar version is calm and soft though it also contains a sadness. I can say that the violin version reminds me the winter in snowstorm, whereas the guitar one reminds me a forest turned into all brown and yellow in autumn. And It's the charm of this music for I can enjoy various kind of arrangements in different mood. That's the reason why 'Chaconne' is my favorite piece of music.

Kyoungmin,Kim/ On favorite piece of art/ Mon34

My mom used to buy me books about painters when I was a kid. I wasn't a very devoted reader, but thanks to my mom I got to enjoy books on paintings. One day I borrowed a book called <At Monet's garden>. The story book included Monet's paintings of his own garden in Giverny. In the book, there were especially lots of paintings of the pond in his garden. The most famous one is the one with the Japanese bridge. The bridge is painted white, and goes over the pond forming an smooth arch. The water of the pond is filled with floating water lilies and its' leaves. The blank surface of the water reflects the dense trees around the garden. The reflection is depicted with light green and yellow. Actually the painting seems to be drawn mostly by dots or short touches of the brush. So if you look at the painting closely, or look at it partially, it's hard to find out what part it is as the boundaries of the objects are not clear. That style of drawing might seem to depict things obscure, but I think Monet catches the moment of the scene concretely than any other painters. I feel like standing in the garden as I see the painting. I can imagine the golden sunlight of the day in the garden. I can know that he's describing the exact moment. How it looked like just then. I feel glad that a person could express what he really feels and sees by painting. I admire Monet as he boldly drew what he saw, not what others consider it should be seen. His way of painting gave me inspiration in living also. To live to be honest to himself and to his contentment, not to satify other's view.

Intro to new world

You feel so exhausted, what songs or music do you listen to? What songs can relax you? If someone asked this question to me, without hesitation I would answer "Intro to new world", the song of famous Korean girl group Girl's Generation. Since 15 years old, I found this song in my friend's MP3 player. At that time, I didn't know Girl's Generation absolutely. But, their song "Intro to new world" attracted me. I had an serious addiction to this song. Even I would listen to the song all day long. I kept in mind the melodious tune. And for all I know its lyrics mean a girl's fluttering love. Because of the cheerful melody or lilting atmosphere of the song, it seems to be cheerful and energetic regardless of the meaning of the lyrics. Sometimes when I am so tired or nervous (quarrel with my people around me or preparing for presentation and so on), I listen to this song. It really helpful to alleviate my painful feeling. It is my veritable painkiller.

                                                                 Da-hyun Yang

The person who I admire is Lena Maria. She is from Sweden. First time I knew her was at the book store. The cover of the book got my eyes, because a woman was smiling on the cover even though she seemed she does not have her arms. I finally bought that book and finished it one day. I was unbelievable that she can do so many things like swimming, sewing, painting, cooking and so on. I was so impressed after reading this book, because I could imagine that all those activities are results of her desperate effort. But soon I took time for self-examination of my past. She is not the great women of history, moreover she is not beautified like other celebrities. But the reason why I admire her is because of the phrase that she mentioned on the book. She said that she thinks the word ' disabled person ' does not mean physically defected, but it is for the person who do not challenge even though they are physically perfect. This phrase really impressed me, and I always recall it whenever I want to give up something. In other words, she made me achieve many things through that phrase. Thus she is the person who I admire most.

Kyeong-eun Lee / A Piece of Music / Mon34

Kyeong-eun Lee / A Piece of Music / Mon34

My favorite music is "Change the World" by Eric Clapton and Babeface, famous English and American singers. The original version of this music is sung by Eric Clapton only, but the live versions of these two singers attract me most. This music is very rhythmical, cheerful and sympathetic, as the lyrics are about wishing to be a king and changing the world as I want. There are several reasons I like this version rather than the original version. Fist, it has magnificent playing of musical instruments, especially guitar. The sounds of guitar are in tune throughout the song, but it also felt like improvisation as it sometimes out of tune on purpose, to give the audiences sense of variation. Second, it contains a humorous part. In the middle of the song, two singers and the instrumental players pretend as the music has finished and stop singing and playing; yet after joyful audiences' applauses, and some tatting talks of two singers, suddenly the music starts again. The last one is the harmony between Eric Clapton and Babyface. As the two are great singers, the synergy arises in the showing off their talents. The above are the reasons I love this song, and I think it will be my favorite for a long time.

A favorite piece of music / Mon34 / Park, Hee-june

Since I was a little girl, I have loved musics a lot. I always sing a song and listen to a music. I like all of music genre from classic to heavy metal. Among them, today's music of June Chart is "Someone like you" by Adele. This song is a masterpiece because of singer's voice, accompaniment, and lyrics. Those three things make perfect harmony. First, the singer's voice is very fascinating. She has husky voice, so it can be expressed various emotions. In this song, her lonely voice makes us cry. Also, the accompaniment is great. For emphasis its mood, only piano accompaniment is used. It works perfectly, the delicate touch of pianist sounds like forcing back her tears. Finally, the substance of lyrics is written like a piece of literature. At the beginning part, it is like a contents of secret diary, and, about refrain, it feels like reading a sad poem. These are the reason why I love this song. It makes me more emotional, and I can remind the tough days of my life. So after listening to it, I also remind the time before I solved that problems, it makes me stronger.
