YoungHoon Kim / A favorite piece of art / Mon 11a.m.

When I was in the elementary school, my art teacher asked me to imitate the famous art. I searched the internet and found that I wanted. It was "Starry Night" which was painted by Vincent Van Gogh. I chose this drawing because it seemed simple to paint at the time. But when I started to draw like Vincent Van Gogh, I realized that it was not as simple as I expected. Despite this difficulty, the more I got to know this picture, the more I got to love this painting. I like the way he expressed brightness and darkness at the same time. In the picture, the town is covered by dark night but there are stars and moon that are bright in the sky. To describe the painting more specifically, it is the dead of the night that only few of the houses put their light on. On the side of the town, there is a really huge black tree standing toward the sky. In the sky, there are stars and the moon with the white whirlpool around it. One of the most impressive things in this picture is that the sky is described like waves in the ocean. The overall color is blue and there are hundreds of different kinds of blue in the painting. If I imagine the situation in the picture, I can feel the cold air in the night. Also, I can think of smells of the trees that are fresh. Furthermore I can conceive the sound of owl crying. I think this piece of art stimulate my various senses. This is why I love this picture that I can still remember vividly through more than 10 years.

  1. Hi, I'm Park, Hee-june. Your topic, "Starry Night" is very famous, so I can understand your writing very well. What I like is your expression, it is very literary and delicate. But it is not necessary to explain the picture at full length, because it's too famous. Just show your feeling more! Then, your writing will be more interesting.

  2. Hello, this is Youna Lee. I really enjoyed your writing.
What I liked about your writing is that you described the full picture of the painting vividly. Appropriate adjectives and fresh expressions make the writing more intersting I think. And also, your main points seems to be the painting 'Starry night' by Van gogh, and your writing is very coherent I think. Especially, I like the part you mentioned about feelings when you imagined the situation in the picture. Such as 'I can feel the cold air', and 'I can conceice the sound of owl crying'. It was really impressive!
If you check your small grammatical faults, and explain more about feelings in detail, it will be perfect I think.
Thank you for reading my opinion. :)

Since I lived in a city that I couldn’t see many stars with naked eyes, I was fascinated by the scene with beautiful brilliant stars. I thought I was dreaming when I looked into this picture.
